Whiplash Pain Relief

Approximately 3 million whiplash injuries happen each year in the United States, and 45 percent of those people will develop chronic neck pain caused by that whiplash.

Whiplash is a non-medical term that characterizes a variety of injuries to the neck caused by or related to “a sudden distortion of the neck associated with extension.” This term is most opten used to group a variety of symptoms that a person can develop following a car accident.

These symptoms can include:

  • Neck Pain
  • Headaches
  • Arm Pain
  • Numbness/Tingling
  • Fatigue
  • Difficulty Sleeping
  • Dizziness
  • Ringing in the Ears
  • Disturbed sense of Smell
  • Memory Difficulties
  • Blurred Vision
  • Back Pain

One of the biggest misunderstandings people have is that the car’s body and internal damage correlates with the person’s body and internal damage. People tend to believe that if they were in a minor car accident that did no apparent damage to their car, they are completely fine.

When it comes to car accidents, research has shown that there is no definitive correlation between how bad your injury is and car damage. Even if your vehicle doesn't seem like it took too much damage during the accident. It may mean that the car did not absorb the force from the accident; instead, the force of energy was transferred to the person which may result in an injury.

One of the main characteristics of whiplash injuries is that pain may not develop immediately or even right after the car accident. In most cases the pain will flare up within the first three to five days. However, it is not uncommon for pain to develop a few weeks or even months after an accident.

Physical Therapy, Chiropractic Care, and Massage Therapy Relieve Whiplash Symptoms

If you have been injured in a car accident, make sure to keep an open mind about your treatment options. Many people tend to just take some pain medication and hope that the pain will go away eventually. This is not the most ideal way of treating your injury. Your pain is not from a lack of the medication and its true cause can be masked instead of addressed.

Chiropractic care, physical therapy, massage therapy, etc. have all been proven to have higher successful outcomes than other treatment options. Both Physical and Massage Therapy work well in conjunction with chiropractic care to treat soft tissue injuries and pain.

At Nokomis Chiropractic and Wellnesswe take a multidisciplinary approach that includes manual therapy, rehabilitation and massage therapy to help your whiplash injuries and symptoms. We will work with you to develop a treatment plan that best fits your needs. Minnesota is a No-Fault state which means you don’t have to wait for a determination of fault to see if your auto insurance rates will increase due to chiropractic or other forms of treatment. Your own auto insurance will cover the cost of care to get you back to pre-accident status without it affecting the price of your policy. Get an evaluation and any necessary treatment as soon as possible to avoid a minor condition turning in to a big problem.
